Massage Envy's Commitment to Safety Program

Review

Our policies and protocols have been developed internally with the input and expertise of industry leaders, which includes our retention of the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization.

Guidance

We created the Massage Envy Safety Advisory Council, a panel made up of leading experts in sexual assault prevention, law enforcement, victim support, and the massage therapy profession, to provide ongoing advice on best practices and ways to make our Commitment to Safety program even stronger.

Prevention

We have implemented a proactive and comprehensive program requiring franchisees to adhere to strict safety policies like performing background screenings for all massage therapists, estheticians, and stretch providers as a condition of hiring and on an annual basis.

Support

Our policies require franchisees to treat victims with the utmost compassion. For instance, upon receiving any complaint involving inappropriate conduct, franchisees must make available a brochure containing pertinent information including the contact information for local law enforcement and the licensing or certification board. The brochure also contains the information for a sexual assault hotline, as well as contact information for the franchise location owner.

Investigation

To facilitate timely and thorough investigations of allegations, franchisees are required to use a third-party investigator to assist the franchisee and investigate allegations. The third-party investigator uses trained, licensed, trauma-informed investigators. Additionally, upon a report of inappropriate conduct, franchisees must immediately remove the service provider from the schedule, and if it is determined an offense occurred, the therapist must be terminated and marked as ineligible for hire at any independently owned and operated Massage Envy franchise location nationwide.

Massage Envy is committed to promoting a safe environment for the members, guests and service providers of each of the more than 1,100 independently owned and operated franchise locations.
