Letter from CEO Beth Stiller on Diversity
Black lives matter.
Dear Massage Envy Family:
Black lives matter.
The past few weeks have made a deep impression on me. I am anguished by the stories being told. I join in the outrage over the inequities experienced by black and brown communities, and I strongly support the efforts taking place across the country to correct social and racial injustices. Like so many, I hope that justice will be served for anyone impacted by tragedy because of the color of their skin.
As a brand, we are committed to being an advocate for equality. All Massage Envy locations are independently owned and operated by franchisees who I have personally observed serving diverse communities and employing thousands of caring and passionate individuals of varied racial and ethnic backgrounds.
As a corporate office, we are dedicated to making real change happen through new and ongoing corporate programs and supporting our franchisees to do the same. During the past few weeks, we have been listening, reflecting, and developing tangible steps to further diversity and inclusion. Today, I am proud to announce the following action plan, which will be implemented by our corporate team.
- Appointment of a Council on Diversity to develop strategies to support and accelerate diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. This Council will ensure these efforts are woven into the fabric of the brand starting today and into the future.
- Mandatory diversity, inclusion, and unconscious bias training for all corporate team members. Training resources will also be made available to franchisees for use with their teams.
- Development of initiatives to more effectively recruit and support franchisees of color.
- In recognition of Juneteenth, encouragement of all corporate team members to take a day off with pay during the month of June to celebrate, reflect, learn, and participate in positive change efforts.
Our community is made up of amazing individuals that embody our brand values, including empathy, gratitude, and optimism. Today, we stand together, thankful for the differences that make us strong, and look forward to a time when we all feel heard, valued, and loved.
Sincerely,
Beth Stiller
